From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (German: Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien) is the only radio orchestra in Austria. Founded in 1969, it was known as the ORF* Symphony Orchestra (German: ORF-Symphonieorchester) until 1996. Unlike most other Austrian orchestras, it has a substantial focus on contemporary classical music.

Principal conductors

Bertrand de Billy (2002–)
Dennis Russell Davies (1996–2002)
Pinchas Steinberg (1989–1996)
Lothar Zagrosek (1982–1986)
Leif Segerstam (1975–1982)
Milan Horvat (1969–1975)

From Will Lerner

This mighty orchestral group specializes in music from the Romantic and Contemporary periods, playing symphonies with a vast, colorful palette and a grandiose sonic sweep. The musicians ably back vibrato-laden singers in their interpretations of modern Classical Vocal music.
