The Fotovix III was developed in the 1990s to bridge the gap between photographic and electronic imaging. Its basic function is to copy slides, negatives or film to video. With a suitable video input or adaptor, the output of the machine can be sent to computer where the range of editing options is endless.  The Fotovix has Focus, Zoom, and Iris controls, colour wheel joystick, negative/positive switch and mains switch. There are  RFU DC out, and video out jacks.

It has various applications which are summarized from the manual as follows: 

 In addition to handling positive and negative film, the Fotovix can also be used to capture images of small objects placed on the film bed, making it more flexible in use than a dedicated film scanner.
