Classic high quality British HiFi amplifier combo. The 33/303 system was first sold in 1968 as the transistorized successor to the company's much revered Quad 22 valve amps.  The 303 earned a Council of Industrial Design Award for it's ground breaking low distortion circuitry and 40 years later these are still considered very fine amps among the audiophile community. The QUAD 303 is particularly well suited to driving the exquisite original Quad ESL electrostatic loudspeakers which present a difficult load and demand a highly stable amplifier to drive them. Conventional cone speakers present no such difficulties and are handled with ease. The matching QUAD 33 control amp has a very clever and effective filter system to remove noise and distortion from the signal, and allows considerable flexibility in set-up through the use of individually configurable slot-in circuit boards.  These amps continued in production until 1986, and it says much for the design that it endured for so long in a highly competitive market, testament to not only its outstanding audio quality but also its durability resulting from industrial level build quality. 

This set dates back to 1980 and can be enjoyed in its current original form, or may be upgraded with modern components by several specialist firms.

PLEASE NOTE:  Quad 33/303 combos are generally considered among the best value amps money can buy in terms of sound quality, upgradeability and longevity. These amps have been owned by me from new and are totally original. Owners tend to fall into two groups - those who prefer to keep their amps unmodified and enjoy the original sweet sound, or those who like to upgrade the amps to take advantage of modern components to produce what is claimed to be a tighter, slightly more detailed sound. The choice comes down to individual taste, the mix of equipment in your system and the type of music you enjoy rather than one necessarily being "better" than the other. 

This set has not been modified or altered from original specification in any way,  so you know exactly what you are getting and have the option to keep them original or modify them in the knowledge of your starting point. Either way, these are high quality amps and will not disappoint. The standard 33 control amp does not cater for moving coil cartridges or CD players but it can be upgraded at moderate cost to do so.  As you can see from the photographs, the units have been well looked after, are undamaged and very clean. The amps were bought in 1980, lightly used by myself for around 10 years and then dry stored for the remainder of the 28 years in my possession. I am in no doubt that these units would rank among the best original sets available anywhere.
